Wing Nuts Will Prancercise At DC’s HRC to Protest Pride Month

Get ready for Pride Month – and for our zany friends from the other side who plan to protest Gay Pride Month once and for all. In looking through my daily deluge of press releases and other PR materials that come my way as a blogger, this release from Christian Newswire caught my eye:

Pro-Family/Christian Leaders to Raise Objections to ‘Gay Pride Month’ — and to Blast Human Rights Campaign for Participating in IRS-Gate

There you have it. The all-stars of the anti-gay movement will prancercise (I couldn’t resist) at DC’s HRC headquarters. The event is sponsored by Porno Peter LaBarbera’s Americans for Truth About Homosexuality. Here’s the release. It’s so good, I run it in its entirety:

Several Christian and pro-family organizations, along with individuals who have left the homosexual life style, will hold a news conference in front of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) building (1640 Rhode Island Ave., NW, Washington, D.C.) at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, to express their objections to celebrating homosexual “pride” in June, during the so-called “Gay Pride Month.” Spokesmen are also expected to lambaste the HRC for their role in receiving and using confidential financial records from the IRS that were used to denounce traditional marriage.

Speakers at the News Conference will include:

    • Peter LaBarbera, founder and President of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (www.aftah.org), who will address “What’s wrong with ‘gay pride’?”
    • Filmmaker, Eric Holmberg of the Apologetics Group, producer of the documentary “Is Gay the New Black? Homosexuality and the Civil Rights Movement.” See YouTube clip of his film to be released on Tuesday, “From Selma to Stonewall” here: bit.ly/115XtRP. DVDs will be available at the news conference.
    • Diane Gramley, President of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania afaofpa.org who will discuss the ongoing homosexual health crisis.
    • Linda Harvey, founder of Mission America and host of Mission America Radio (www.missionamerica.com) who will expose the harmful HRC agenda toward kids.
    • Matt Barber, Vice President of Liberty Counsel Action, a public policy arm of the international civil rights legal group, Liberty Counsel  (www.libertycounsel.com). Attorney Barber will address the HRC’s apparent role in IRS-gate. HRC is being investigated for allegedly conspiring with IRS officials to illegally obtain private National Organization of Marriage (NOM) documents in an effort to publicly smear the pro-marriage group.

“Why are so many cities proudly celebrating a harmful sexual preference that undermines health, undermines families, and leads children astray?” asks Linda Harvey, talk show host and founder of Mission America. “The Human Rights Campaign is simply wrong to continue its business of selling this lifestyle to America. There’s nothing here to be proud of, but instead, this organization should be very ashamed.”

FourFuglyCrackpotsPeter LaBarbera, President of the Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, explained: “On Tuesday morning we will gather in front of the world’s most powerful homosexual lobby group, Human Rights Campaign, in Washington, D.C., during so-called ‘Gay Pride Month’ (June) to proclaim the politically incorrect truth: that proud homosexuality is against God; against Nature; very unhealthy; and a serious threat to children and religious freedom. Thankfully, it is also changeable — as proved by the existence of countless thousands of happy former ‘gay’ men and ex-lesbians.

“Our bottom line is that homosexuality is nothing to be proud of. In fact, practicing homosexual behavior, a destructive sin, is something to be ashamed of. Out-and-proud homosexualism — far from being a ‘human right’ — is actually a human wrong.”

“We will also testify to the lies, dirty tricks, anti-democratic bullying, hate-mongering and intimidation that have fueled the advance of so-called ‘gay rights’ in America. Recently such tactics surfaced again when HRC obtained and published leaked IRS filings from a pro-natural-marriage group, which it used to attack the donors to Mitt Romney’s campaign in an election year,” Mr. LaBarbera said.

“It’s not surprising that HRC has inroads into the most corrupt presidential administration in history,” said Matt Barber of the Liberty Counsel. “The HRC is following the tactics of Saul Alinsky as detailed in his manifesto ‘Rules for Radicals.’ President Obama and his IRS are evidently aiding and abetting this radical organization. Because sexual anarchist groups like the HRC cannot win the debate on the merits, they must resort to underhanded and, as it now appears, outright illegal tactics in order to gain momentum for their extremist agenda,” Barber said.

“As a child of the 60′s, I was once very much a proponent of the so-called ‘free-love’ movement,” remarked documentary filmmaker, Eric Holmberg. “When I became a Christian I discovered that ‘free-love’ was far from free; that destroying the Biblical binaries concerning both gender and sexual orthodoxy would eventually lead to greater license, confusion and untold human and social suffering; and that this third wave of the sexual revolution would serve as the coup de grâce for a sin-sick society that is even now free-falling towards Gomorrah.”

The News Conference is sponsored by Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, a nonprofit national organization devoted exclusively to exposing and countering the homosexual activist agenda.

If you live in the DC area, or you are one of the hard-working employees of HRC, be sure to bring a lawn chair to watch the parade. There will never be a better advertisement for LGBT rights and marriage equality.

Maine Court to NOM: Show Us Your Donors

Screenshot_5_30_13_10_01_PM

The long battle between NOM and the State of Maine regarding the transparency of the organization’s donor list is over (at least at this court level). The Maine Supreme Court has ruled that NOM cannot hide the list of their financial supporters from the state election oversight commission.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court on Thursday upheld a lower court’s ruling that the National Organization for Marriage and its allies cannot shield the names of donors to a 2009 campaign against same-sex marriage from the state’s election oversight commission:

In affirming an earlier Kennebec County Superior Court’s decision, justices on the Supreme Judicial Court rejected NOM’s arguments that subpoenas issued by the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Elections Practices violate donors’ First Amendment rights and expose them to “threats, harassment and reprisal.”

The court heard arguments in the case April 11.

“Our review of the extensive record, the Superior Court’s well-reasoned opinion, and the detailed analysis of related issues by our federal court colleagues leads us to conclude that, on the facts of this case, the Commission did not err,” the ruling issued Thursday states.

In 2009, NOM raised $1.9 million to repeal the state’s recognition of marriage equality. On the coattails of the defeat of Prop 8 in California, the organization reused messaging and strategy to repeat the win a year later in Maine.

In 2010, U.S. District Judge D. Brock Hornby upheld the state’s disclosure laws as they relate to ballot committees. Early last year, the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with Hornby’s ruling. In August 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up NOM’s appeal.

So, it looks like we may soon see how much the Catholic Church and the Mormons contributed to defeat equality in my home state of Maine.

Guess What? Gay-hating Bakers Serve Other Sinners

Remember the cake shops who wouldn’t serve gay couples in Oregon? Apparently, they have no problem taking money from other sinners. Via Towleroad:

Recently, Towleroad has written about two Oregon bakers, Sweet Cakes by Melissa, and Fleur Cakes, who have refused to serve gay couples because of their religious beliefs.

Portland’s Williamette Week has now exposed their hypocrisy and blatant anti-gay bias by making undercover inquiries to the two bakeries while plainly stating other qualities that would be characterized as ‘sinful’ behavior in the eyes of the Bible.

Writes the paper:

“We wondered what other requests these cakemakers would decline to honor. So last week five WW reporters called these two bakeries anonymously to get price quotes for other occasions frowned upon by some Christians. Surprisingly, the people who answered the phone at each bakery were quite willing to provide baked goods for celebrations of divorces, unmarried parents, stem-cell research, non-kosher barbecues and pagan solstice parties.”

WWeek adds: “We later contacted both bakeries to ask about these inconsistencies. Regentin declined to comment beyond asking whether she had been taped (she had not). Sweet Cakes owners Melissa and Aaron Klein were upset that we ‘would even try to entrap a business’ and contacted conservative talk-show host Lars Larson.”

As much as these bozos claim that not discriminating against gay people is a violation of their religious liberties, apparently they have no issues with giving business to other sinners. In fact, as much as organizations like NOM claim that marriage equality will infringe on their “liberties,” their unwillingness to serve LGBTs is just about discrimination — involving something they find “icky.” Many states (including Oregon) have non-discrimination laws against gender, race and sexual orientation and that is the true issue here.

I bet the wing nuts wish they had discovered this exemption when fighting all these anti-discrimination laws in the first place.

Actions speak louder than words.

Now, if you excuse me, I need to order my abortion cake. At least I know where to go.

Nigeria Bans Everything Gay or Go To Prison for 14 Years

Lawmakers in Nigeria yesterday banned same-sex marriage and creation of any gay right supportive groups. While the law doesn’t approach Uganda’s “Kill the Gays” bill in severity, it does provide for a 14-year prison sentence for violation of the law:

Nigeria’s House of Representatives approved the bill in a voice vote, likely sending it immediately to President Goodluck Jonathan for him to potentially sign into law inAfrica’s most populous nation. Whether he will approve it remains unclear, and both the United States and the United Kingdom raised concerns over a measure that could put foreign funding for AIDS and HIV outreach programs in jeopardy.

Nigeria’s Senate previously passed the bill in November 2011 and the measure quietly disappeared for some time before coming up in Thursday’s session of the House. Under previous versions of the proposed law, couples who marry could face up to 14 years each in prison. Witnesses or anyone who helps couples marry could be sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

Other additions to the bill include making it illegal to register gay clubs or organizations, as well as criminalizing the “public show of same-sex amorous relationships directly or indirectly.” Those who violate those laws would face 10-year imprisonment as well.

It will be interesting how the U.S. responds to aid requests from the country. Nigeria is a top provider of crude oil to the United States.

Daniel Dobson, Son of Ex-Moral Majority Leader, Comes Out As Gay

The Reverend Ed Dobson, who formally was an executive with Jerry Falwell’s Moral Majority and now suffers from ALS, has a gay son. Daniel Dobson tells MLive that he came out to his parents two years ago and was relieved with their positive reaction. An Iraqi vet, Dobson believes that it is okay to be gay and a devout Christian. As MLive reports:

A firefight on the road to Baghdad helped give Daniel Dobson the courage to come out as a gay man.

Dobson, then 18, had been in Iraq only a few weeks when his U.S. Army gun truck came under heavy fire from al Qaeda. He froze up momentarily with fear. But he reached deep in his gut to withstand the assault, helped by a note card he’d put on the windshield. It quoted the book of Hebrews:

“The Lord has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?’”

The verse had been given to him by his father, the Rev. Ed Dobson, who had turned to it often in his battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

While that 2004 attack was terrifying, it helped prepare Daniel for an even scarier moment almost two years ago. He stood outside his parents’ door and repeated Hebrews 13:5-6 to himself. Then he told them, “Mom, dad, I’m gay. And I still love Jesus. And nothing else changes.”

After a stunned silence, he recalls, his father said, “We still love you. And nothing else changes.”

The relief of hearing that was “absolutely huge,” says Dobson, now 28. “It almost felt like I was able to breathe again.”

It had taken him 13 years to divulge his sexual orientation to his parents. Today, Dobson feels ready to tell the rest of us.

Rev. Dobson is know as more gay-friendly in the Evangelical movement than most. While he does not accept homosexuality, he is fair about homosexuality in the context of the church:

Despite his pedigree, Ed Dobson has been far and away one of the most gay-friendly figures in the evangelical movement. After leaving Falwell to become pastor of a church in Michgan, Ed began to offer pastoral care to people with AIDS. When one parishioner worried that the church would be “overrun” with gays, Dobson responded, ““That will be terrific. They can take their place in the pews right next to the liars, gossips, and materialists.”

If you live in Michigan, you may be interested in learning more about Dobson’s experience first hand. “Homosexuality and Christianity: A new approach in a polarizing debate,” a panel discussion with audience Q&A, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at Wealthy Theatre, 1130 Wealthy St. SE. Tickets are $10 ($8 for students), available at the door or online.

The First Gay Wedding Happened In France

After months of marriage equality turmoil in France, same-sex marriages are now recognized. Vincent Autin and Bruno Boileau are the first couple to tie the knot in France and we wish them well. Very handsome, indeed.
