The NFL Gets Naked For PETA
While I am not a fan of PETA, I do like its new ad campaign featuring Bret Lockett and Shawne Merrimen. The NFL players are amongst a group of athletes strutting their bods for animal rights:
What really hurt me was when I saw that an animal was still able to move and lift its head up after it was completely skinned. It brought tears to my eyes.” - Bret Lockett
The New York Jets safety is the latest NFL player to drop his clothes for PETA’s “Ink, Not Mink” campaign urging people to be comfortable in their own skin and not in animals. The Buffalo Bills’ Shawne Merrimen also puts his physique on display for the organization. “Lights Out” as Merrimen is better known proudly shows off his heart of gold, literally. He has a tattoo with those words on his well-defined pecs.
Lockett and Merrimen are the latest NFL players to work with PETA. They join a growing list of athletes including Terrell Suggs, Willis McGahee, Chris Andersen, Chad Ochocinco, Amar’e Stoudemire, Tony Gonzalez, Aaron Curry, “Sugar” Shane Mosley, and Tito Ortiz who have all teamed up to promote kindness towards animals. Check out Bret Lockett and Shawne Merrimen’s ads below which were photographed by Tyler Jason.
While PETA’s extremism is not my cup of tea, I am a huge animal rights proponent so these hot bodies may change my mind about considering the organization. More below.
