Shane’s Video Breaks All Records At Kickstarter
Remember the touching video several months ago that Shane Crone shared about the death of his boyfriend, Tom? “It Could Happen To You” quickly went viral (with our tears waking us up about our lack of legal protections). Some good news come out the efforts at Kickstarter to raise funds to turn the viral video into a documentary:
Producer Linda Bloodworth Thomason (“Designing Women”) led the fundraising and it has broken all previous records at Kickstarter:
“The prejudice and bigotry that Shane and Tom experienced was not unlike what I witnessed in 1986 when my mother died of transfused AIDS,” said Bloodworth Thomason.
Now, GLAAD reports that fundraising for Bridegroom, An American Love Story, has broken all of Kickstarter’s records:
The fundraising website, which has helped to finance more than 7,400 films, confirmed that the indie documentary about marriage equality surpassed all previous fundraising efforts by netting $384,375 in four weeks.
I said at the time that this story was one that everyone should read and share. I am sure that the documentary will further prove how we all must take care of our legal responsibilities to ensure that our partners do not get pulled out of our lives by hateful families when tragedies like that of Tom and Shane occur.
