In case you are not on top of wing nut news, gay activist Dan Savage made comments several weeks ago speaking to a group of high school journalism students:
We can learn to ignore the bullshit in the Bible about gay people — the same way we have learned to ignore the bullshit in the Bible about shellfish, about slavery, about dinner, about farming, about menstruation about virginity about masturbation. We ignore bullshit in the Bible about all sorts of things.
(I use this reasoning all the time with people, BTW).
As a result of the speech, a number of “distraught” Christian students left the auditorium to which Savage responded:
You can tell the Bible guys in the hall they can come back now because I’m done beating up the Bible. It’s funny as someone who is on the receiving end of beatings that are justified by the Bible how pansy-assed people react when you push back.
Peter LaBarbera went after Savage on Twitter after LaBarbera was asked to leave an event featuring Savage at Elmhurst College last week (one that followed the earlier exchange at the journalism school). A Christian news site joined LaBarbera in condemning Savage:
The media have been glossing over militant gay activist Dan Savage’s brutal war on Christians during a talk at Elmhurst College last week. Conservative activist Peter LaBarbera claims he was removed from the “It Gets Better” founder’s event after LaBarbera expressed his Christian views, and attempted to question Savage about his vile attack on conservative presidential candidate Rick Santorum.
Their Twitter exchange follows:
Following Savage’s Twitter response, Porno Pete returned to his sex-toy covered bed to project. What do you think of their squabble?
President Barack Obama takes on the GOP, Mitt Romney, birthers, Congress…you name it, he jokes about it. He’s quite funny, actually.
At one point, President Obama jokes, “In my first term, we repealed the policy known as ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ Wait, though. In my second term we will replace it with a policy known as ‘It’s Raining Men.’”
