In the category of “what I didn’t expect to hear today,” Mike Huckabee is apparently a fan of Lee Hirsch’s Bully:
The Bully documentary has a top Republican supporter with Mike Huckabee using his television show and an op-ed to call on everyone to see it regardless of their political party.
“I hope that there will be lines around the block and down the street,” hewrote in the Daily Beast.
Huckabee called the movie “life changing” on his Fox News television show during an interview with director Lee Hirsch, and he promised to do everything he can to get people to theaters after seeing the stories of the bullying victims and being “profoundly moved by their plight.” Although Huckabee didn’t call out attacks based on perceived or actual sexual orientation, that does figure prominently in the movie as students are called antigay slurs and one of the story lines focuses on a lesbian student faced with the prospect of dropping out of high school.

And in other news, Speaker John Boehner also put BP in charge of the new Gas and Oil Freedom Commission:
U.S. House Speaker John Boehner on Tuesday appointed Robert George, co-founder and chairman emeritus of the National Organization for Marriage, to the U.S. Commission for International Religious Freedom, which, according to the Commission’s chairman, addresses “the challenges of religious extremism, intolerance, and repression throughout the world.”
The appointment was announced on the same day the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) released previously sealed documents detailing how NOM has pursued “a divisive, intolerant, and racially-charged strategy to stop marriage equality in the United States.”

After almost 40 years on TV, SNL has had very few (open) gay cast members. That changes with Lorne Michaels‘ hiring of Kate McKinnon. She was nominated for ECNY’s Emerging Comic Award in 2010. She also cut her teeth as a performer in the Upright Citizens Brigade and the Big Gay Sketch Show.
And here’s her commitment ceremony:
I spend a great deal of time covering Dave and James Franco and today is no exception. Stars Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and James Franco film a spring break party scene for their new film “Spring Breakers” on March 28, 2012 in Tampa, FL. The girls, dressed in bikinis, were part of the audience that was rocking out to James Franco’s character rapping on stage.
James is so bizarre.
