Model, former porn actor and Personal Trainer Dror Barak (aka Roman Ragazzi) apparently committed suicide on Saturday, February 25:
According to reports on Facebook and Twitter, Dror Barak, aka Roman Ragazzi, has died of an apparent suicide on February 25 at the age of 38. Barak most recently appeared in a fashion story in the February issue of Out, titled “New York’s Finest,” photographed by Marcelo Krasilcic (pictured left).
The former Israeli military trainer was outed in 2007 by New York Post’s Page Six while working at the Israeli consulate, the ensuing scandal caused him to resign. Later that year, he started a personal training and fitness company called Freedom Fitness.
It’s definitely a tragedy that someone so young with seemingly lots going for him ended it all. Commenter Lenair shared an interesting prospective on the tragedy on the story at OUT.
As a former gay porn actor myself, I can tell you for a fact that MANY in the porn industry suffer from an extreme self-loathing. Mainly because porn is their means to being validated, and when that notoriety is gone, unless they find success elsewhere, they feel empty. It’s part of the reason that since retiring from the studio-based porn, I don’t keep in contact with many of those that I associated with while in the business. For that degree of depression was in me before my coming out. However, the porn business was slowly, but surely making me backslide into it. Dror’s demons were obviously still haunting him, and it’s sad that he never found the peace within to overcome them.
