‘Queen’ Screened At The 2012 Queens World Film Festival!

While we are in post-Oscar frenzy, just a reminder that the films and awards continue. I heard from the great folks at the 2nd Annual Queens World Film Festival, which begins in a few days on March 1 (through the 4th). A slew of LGBT films are slated for viewings, including the world premiere of Queen - an exquisite LGBT short film by a young filmmaker/actor from Los Angeles.

On Saturday, March 3 QWFF will screen an incredible selection of LGBT films including several fine selections from Spain. 2012 marks the first year that LGBT films are eligible to be in competition for awards and prizes on par with other features from the QWFFF program (Award Ceremony Sunday March 4).

“We’re especially excited to offer films that are atypical of the usual LGBT fare”, Festival Programmer Don Cato said. “These are excellent films, exploring universal themes as well as fresh cultural perspectives on queer issues.”

The 2012 LGBT shorts program includes: Queen, from actor Adam Rose (The Squid and The Whale) making his directing debut. Nikki Holiday, a drag queen cabaret star, tries to fill the void in her life after her plans to start a family fall apart. In Adelle’s Riddle, from director Ruben Gonzalez Barbosa, a puzzle brings two women closer together in an unexpected fashion. In Coffee and Pie, directors Andrew Stoneham and Douglas Horn tell the story of a sensitive wallflower finding strength to stand up to a callous lover. Then there’s Uniformadas from director Carlos Mulas?Granados where the homogeny in an all girls’ private school is tenderly broken. In The Perfect Man, director Rueben PF brings a girl?meets boy tale with a twist. Rain in Summer is an unlikely triad between two Brooklyn girls. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and children, $6 for seniors.

Be sure to check out the festival’s site for more info! The trailer for Queen follows…
