The ups and downs of parenting

Do you know that sound that I’m talking about?  You know, the sound of a stream of liquid hitting a rug, a pile of clothes, or other fabric?

I am specifically referring to the sound of urine.  One memory I have of that sound is when my friend Chris got wasted in college and passed out on the couch in our dorm room (sorry, boys — no pornworthy story coming).  I remember hearing the unmistakable sound of his urine hitting the pile of my roommate’s laundry.  He then proceeded to pass out on top of it with his pants at his ankles.  I couldn’t wake anyone else up to help me roust him, and by the time the rest of my suite awoke in the morning, all that was left was one pile of urine-stinky clothes.

It had been years since I heard that sound until about 3:30 a.m. this morning.  I woke up to Louie, my black lab, standing on my bed urinating — all over me, the down comforter, and various sheets all the way to the mattress pad.  I’m not sure why he did such a thing except to protest my not being at home very much lately.  At any rate, it was a disasterous situation that required bed making and showering for about an hour this morning.  Needless to say, I do feel rested — maybe a shower and clean sheets in the middle of the night does that to a fellow?

Aaah.  The ups and downs of dog parenting.  We still love our kids anyways…

Louie was showing you his new hobby in “Water Sports”. You can’t blame a dog for experimenting… ;)

And here I was angry at my puppy for chewing through the cable line; thus knocking out internet, television, and telephone. But I think pissing in the bed takes the prize. I’m wondering how Louie learned about peeing on another man?

Well, as Margaret Cho would say “At least it’s warm for a few seconds.” :)

Good for Louie. Too bad he had the wrong bed.
