The week has started with a visit to the vet with Louie:
- He has an impacted anal gland (this happens at least once a year)
- He sprained his front leg
So, my dog is not doing well both in front and in back. He will visit the pet hospital tomorrow to have the infected gland lanced, the foot x-rayed, and his teeth cleaned. It’s a damn good thing I bought pet insurance! I haven’t seen such a combination of injuries since going on tour with The Grateful Dead years ago (don’t ask).

Speaking of the Dead, I also discovered that the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas was recently imploded to make way for a $4 billion mega-casino-resort. The Stardust has some memories for me, as this is where I stayed on at least one occasion while attending Dead shows in Vegas in the early 1990s.
The Las Vegas Strip has become an endless array of Disneyland-like monoliths that attempt to lure families and gamblers all in one place — I miss Vegas hotels like the Sands, the Dunes, and now the Stardust as they never pretended to be anything they weren’t. Of course, as Vegas continues to build out, I have visions of a very dry Colorado River drained for more golf courses, water shows, and other attractions. Do we really need another 10,000 hotel rooms in Vegas? Watching this video of the hotel’s destruction is a bit weird. Eerily reminiscent of the collapse of the World Trade Center, especially with the dust clouds, crowds cheering and applauding as the building falls. This is quite the contrast of images of people running away from similar dust clouds on 9/11.
You can find out more about the end of the Stardust Hotel here.
Finally, we are close to nailing down the location for the San Francisco Gay Pride Blogger Summit II. It will happen in our SOMA (South of Market) neighborhood during the evening of Friday, June 22. It looks like we will have a bar closed to our private guests, along with drink specials, food, and entertainment. Oh yea – Jimmi and I will tape a video version of The Jimmi & Dan Variety Cast during the weekend.
I have a list of bloggers who have sent me their emails for an invite. If you would like to be included on the soon-to-be-sent Evite invitation, please let me know via my comments section or by sending an email to DanNationBlog@gmail.com.
So, Monday tidbits has covered everything from a sick dog to a dead hotel to our blogger party. This chaos is quite reflective of my Monday thus far.
Until tomorrow (when we may have another podcast for your listening pleasure)…
