The guests are gone. The gifts are opened. And I am exhausted. Last night proved to me once again how great my friends are and how they really are my family. They put on quite a tribute, and I had a difficult time keeping a dry eye throughout the night.
The big surprise was the appearance of Julio the go-go boy. I had been joking all week that I wanted one of my very own. During the appetizers, the lights went down and the dance music came on, and he came running from a back room onto the bar and quickly pulled me up to join him. Apparently, my friend Debra and my college roommate, who could not attend, had conjured up this meaty entree for me. Since I have spent years paying for strippers at my straight friends’ bachelor parties, they felt that I deserved this yummy pleasure. The funniest part was seeing my friend’s mom put $20 in his “pouch” at the end of the dance. With my office colleagues, a member of our city council and various others all in attendance, everyone witnessed our sexy bar dance (I was shirtless while dancing on a bar for the second time this weekend – do I really have to act my age yet?) and saw my fun and gay side. It is so great to be so open with all these various people. We have a very gay-friendly town, so the support is remarkable for shananigans like mine.
Today, I am exhausted and opening various presents. I don’t think I will ever drink champagne again, nor have a party that was such a celebration of what I define as my family. I am a lucky guy!
By the way, my excitement rose at one point when Julio said that he needed to stay at my house (he commuted from Albuquerque). Just as the possibility of entertaining a dancer who speaks no English made me wonder where I had shelved my Spanish dictionary, he gave me a big kiss and off he went with someone who could give him a ride. Oh well. I probably would have had a heart attack anyway.
Everything was amazing, and now I’m glad it’s over. I felt like I was putting on a wedding.
My busy week continues with a trip to San Francisco from Wednesday through Sunday. And, with this post you will NEVER have to read about my 4oth birthday again.

By the way, don’t we make a cute couple? I am just wondering from what part of my dirty thoughts my smirk originated…
