Okay, so I’m planning my 40th birthday party for January in Santa Fe. My birthday is actually the 3rd, but since so many people (I hope) are coming from out of town, it will happen over MLK, Jr. weekend. It’s turning out to be like planning a wedding (like I know what that is about), but from what I can tell from all the weddings that I’ve been to, it’s probably close. I just checked the RSVP list on evite, though, and 100 people haven’t responded!! Is it that they’re waiting for something better to come along before they decide to say yes? I am being a drama queen, and I must presume its because it’s not all about me! Their lives, I mean. My Burning Man friends are coming from California, and I love those guys and am excited about that. My best-est girlfriend is coming from San Francisco (DEBRA!), and my friends in Santa Fe, of course, will attend. It’s nervewracking to plan a party for out of town friends, though, ’cause you really find out WHO your friends are.
Another one of my out-of-town friends coming is Chris. Interesting story – Chris and his ex (Ashley) used to host a sort-of-blog of their lives, with diaries, web cams, stories, films they made, photos of their daily lives. Essentially a visual web “real world” site where people subscribed to observe them. I thought this idea was pretty cool, and one time when I was in Austin (where they were based), I met them and we became good friends. The site was called www.cutecouple.com but it no longer exists. I am fascinated by people who can share it all like they did. Maybe a reason why I’m playing with this blog thing. Chris is coming yet I feel so out of touch but definitely can’t wait to see him (he’s pretty cute, too, but str8)…
I’m not completely new to blogging. In 2001, I took a year off from working at the start-up I was involved with and took a 2-month trip to Europe and spent the summer in Maine (seeing family and friends). I was housesitting for my best friend’s parents in Santa Fe when 9/11 happened and instead of travelling to SE Asia (as I planned), I ended up moving here. Anyway, during that entire time I maintained a website for my friends to follow my year off. This is a whole lot easier, though.
The beautiful boy at the beginning of this post is Louie.
